On a recent trip to Salt Lake City, we visited Chinatown because we always have to eat chinese food wherever we go. Out of all the restaurants available in Salt Lake's Chinatown Center, we picked this restaurant because the menu had a variety, in addition to having dim sum. We were not sure what to expect since you couldn't judge a restaurant by its cover! Inside has a dated decor, a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. We ordered some dim sum, beef chow fun, and shrimp egg foo young (even though I'm Chinese, I love egg foo young)!! The portion was generous. The food was authentic, fresh, and delicious. We also got some buns to go. AND best of all, you can't beat the price!! If we are ever in Utah again, we will definitely come back.

Normally if I go to a really good Chinese restaurant, I ignore things like decor and service in exchange for really good Chinese food. China Town Eatery seems to be the best of both worlds- decent dim sum and noodle soup options, as well as cleanliness, friendliness, and fast service! Mandarin, Cantonese, and English are spoken by the staff, so you'll likely be able to find someone and order in the language you are most comfortable with. We had our family group of four plus one toddler, and were able to find seating and had a baby seat given to us quickly. The menu is quite large, with dim sum offerings, a large bakery selection that includes char su baos and bolo baos, noodle soups, and dishes for family-style eating. The one area of improvement I see is that there was a lack of knowledge about vegan options as well as an overall shortage of options. Which, for an authentic Chinese eatery with a bakery, is fairly common and mostly a flaw in the overall cuisine. My dad asked about vegetarian options and we were pointed to the vegetable menu, which wasn't quite the same and had items with oyster sauce on them. I did find a tofu noodle soup, though.

What a hidden gem! Came here for a late lunch on a Saturday. The nearby new-age Asian food in the plaza did not seem appealing at the time, and we were lucky it was not so late in the day that this restaurant had closed their lunch hours. The floor was a bit sticky coming in. We were seated in a booth, with friendly service quickly getting to our order. I shared some dim sum items and a wonton noodle soup. In traditional flavors of dim sum, the food was delicious! My favorite were the rice rolls and noodle soup. The portions were generous and we left stuffed. Prices were very reasonable. Parking in the crowded Chinese plaza was somewhat of a challenge, but it made the meal more worth it in the end.

China Town Eatery is a mixed experience: The dim sum was really quite wonderful, but unfortunately the service made it difficult to enjoy. To be fair, they give warning that it'll be slow, posting that they have one waiter, one chef and one wok, and they do live up to their notice. That said, it might be worth it considering the great flavors and textures they offer. NOT a fast eating experience, but certainly worth the trip. Note that food comes out when it's ready and not all at once, so you may find yourself reminding the waiter about the rest of your order - rest assured they know, they just are working at their own pace.

Excellent, made to order (mostly) dim sum as opposed to those huge dim sum halls where the food comes out in food carts. Everything was super tasty, yet not overly salty. The chive dumplings were extra large and extra crispy on the outside. Likewise the turnip cakes. When you get them from the usual dim sum cart, most of the dim sum has been steamed to death and is usually mushy. Service was quick and efficient when we were here (Friday 1:00, 3 tables). The one waitress was running around though. So I can see service slowing down significantly if there were more full tables. Decor is typical of these hole in the wall, mom and pop, places. And also a shiny layer of grease over most surfaces lol. But that's not what you come here for, right? You come here for great food at very reasonable prices. And this place delivers that in spades. It's really as good as some of the best dim sum we've had in NYC, if not better. The bathroom was clean. A bonus! As a minor complaint: I showed the waitress the Yelp coupon for BOGO bun, and she just said NO and waved it away lol. No big deal. We didn't come here expecting any free food. PS: we saw them bring out their freshly baked pineapple buns, cha siu bao, etc, and we had to buy a few to go. They turned out to be absolutely delicious, even 3 hours later when we were back in our hotel.
